A huge fire broke out on the fourth and fifth floors of Terminal 1 of the Serum Institute of India in Pune. Supposedly, the BCG vaccine is developed in this lab to prevent TB. No casualties were reported at the time. A vehicle of 10 firefighters has reached the spot. Four employees have been evacuated from the building. A fire has broken out at the new Serum Institute of India plant in Manjari, Pune. Corona vaccine Covishield is mass-produced at the Rs 300 crore plant. The plant was inaugurated by Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan last year, though vaccine production has not yet started at the plant.
Why is the Serum Institute special?
So far, SSI has sold 1.5 billion doses. This is also a kind of record. According to these statistics, 60% of the world's children have been vaccinated with a single serum vaccine. The World Health Organization (WHO) accredited Serum Institute vaccine is supplied to 170 countries.
