  • The Splendor sold 2,80,250 units and the HF Deluxe 2,16,201 units in September.
  • The Classic 350 ranks 9th in the top-10 list, with a total of 38,827 units sold.

The Indian automobile industry is booming. It is leading the passenger vehicle, SUV and two-wheeler segments. The sales graph of the two-wheeler segment has been steadily increasing due to the huge demand for bikes.

A total of 18,49,546 two-wheelers were sold last month, an increase of 11.64%. This includes a total of 12,24,117 units of bikes, 5,56,205 units of scooters and 68,929 units (20.33%) of mopeds. Electric vehicles accounted for 3.72%.

If you are also thinking of buying a new bike this festive season, it is important to know about the best selling bikes in September so that you can know which bikes are in high demand.

1. Hero Splendor: 2,80,250 units

  • Hero Splendor tops the list of top-10. Its total sales in September were 2,80,250 units, i.e., 9,341 units were sold per day. It sold a total of 2,32,301 units in August, or 7,493 units per day.
  • It includes three models in the Splendor range, one of India's first BS6 compliant two-wheelers - Splendor Plus, Splendor i-Smart and Super Splendor. The Splendor Plus is the cheapest model in the range with a starting price of Rs 59,600. The Super Splendor is the most expensive model priced at Rs 67,300, while the Splendor i-Smart Mid variant is priced at Rs 67,100.
  • The new engine in the Splendor is a 113.2cc, single cylinder, fuel-injected unit, which generates 9.1hp at 7500rpm and 9.89Nm of torque at 5,500rpm.

2. Hero HF Deluxe: 2,16,201 units

  • HF Deluxe ranks second with sales of over 200,000 units a month. Its total sales in September 2020 were 2,16,201 units x, an increase of 22% per month, with a total of 1,77,168 units sold in August 2020.
  • Hero launched the BS6 HF Deluxe in early January 2020 and the base variant was priced at Rs 55,925 and the i3S variant at Rs 57,250 (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
  • The updated HF Deluxe has a 100cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine, which generates 7.94hp and 8.05Nm.
  • Hero claims that the new engine is 9% more fuel efficient and has better performance. It has 6% fast acceleration. The new HF Deluxe also includes Hero's i3S (Ideal Start-Stop System).

3. Honda CB Shine: 1,18,004 units

  • The Honda CB Shine is third on the list with 1,18,004 units. It saw an increase of 32% on an annual basis, with 88,893 units sold in September 2019. As well as growing 11% per month, it sold 1,06,133 units in August 2020.
  • This is Honda's first bike with a BS6 engine compliant. It has a 124.73cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine upgraded to BS6, with the power figure increased from 10.31hp to 10.88hp.
  • The BS6 CB Shine features an electronic fuel injection system that provides a crisp and smooth throttle response. The engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission.

4. Bajaj Pulsar: 1,02,698 units

  • The Pulsar family currently has a total of 9 variants, including the Pulsar 125, Pulsar 150, 150 Neon, 150 Twin Disc, Pulsar 180F, Pulsar 220, NS 160, NS 200 and RS 20. A total of 1,02,698 units of the Pulsar range were sold in September 2020, an increase of 18% on a monthly basis. In August 2020, 87,202 units were sold.
  • Between May and July 2020, Bajaj Auto has doubled the prices of its product portfolio - previously Rs. 500 to Rs. 4,500 and Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,400 did. However, this did not dampen buyers' enthusiasm.

5. Hero Glamor: 69,477 units

  • The Hero Glamor is the third Hero bike in the top-10. It sold 69,477 units in September, an improvement of 28% per month, with a total of 54,315 units sold in August 2020.
  • It was recently launched in the 125cc segment with the aim of giving glamor a new look. It will compete with Honda SP 125 and Bajaj Pulsar 125.
  • The bike has a 124.7cc displacement and a new single cylinder engine to power the glamor and the old bike is given a 5 speed gearbox instead of a 4 speed unit.
  • Glamor is available in two variants - one with drum brakes at the front and the other with disc brakes priced at Rs. 69,750 and Rs. 73,250 respectively.
  • The price of glamor in this price band is around Rs 1,500 less than Pulsar 125 and about Rs 4,000 less than Honda SP 125.

6. Hero Passion: 63,296 units

  • Hero Passion has been in the market for a very long time. Sales are slowly improving and sold a total of 63,296 units in September, up 20.63% per month, from 52,471 units sold in August 2020.
  • Hero recently launched its 2020 Passion Pro model. It is powered by an updated BS6 113cc engine that generates 9.15hp and 9.9Nm of torque.

7. Bajaj Platina: 55,496 units

  • Platina is the second Bajaj bike in the top 10 list after the famous Pulsar. It sold a total of 55,496 units last month. It increased by 26% year-on-year. It sold 43,978 units in September 2019 last year. A growth of 37% per month was recorded. In August 2020, it sold 40,298 units.
  • The Platina 100 has a 102cc single cylinder BS6 engine for power. Its peak output is 7.9hp and 8.34Nm. 
  • The Platina 100 is the only 100cc computer bike to feature disc brakes. However, you will have to spend extra money for this. But after spending more money, it costs as much as a 110cc computer bike. As such, TVS Radon starts at Rs 59,742.

8. Bajaj CT: 45,105 units

  • A total of 45,105 units of India's cheapest bikes were sold. The figures have improved compared to August 2020. It sold only 34,863 units in August.
  • At a starting price of Rs 42,790, the Bajaj CT100 is a refined, good quality product and a symbol of affordable engineering.
  • In fact, it is surprising why the company keeps such a low price.

9. Royal Enfield Classic 350: 38,827 units

  • The Chennai-based manufacturer's popular model Classic 350 sold a total of 38,827 units last month. With these figures, it is ranked 9th in the top-10. In August 2020, it sold 34,791 units. The Classic 350 is Enfield's favorite bike. In fiscal 2019, Royal Enfield sold 6,56,651 bikes. It accounted for 60% of the Classic 350's.
  • The BS6 Classic 350 comes with a fuel-injection system that generates 19.8hp and 28Nm of torque. Priced at Rs 1,78,000, the new Classic 350 model is about Rs 11,000 more expensive than the BS4 spec.

10. TVS Apache: 37,788 units

  • Demand for TVS Motor Company's premium and flagship bike Apache is increasing. In September 2020, Apache sold 37,788 units, up from 33,540 units in August. In early August, the company increased the price of some models by Rs 1,000, including the Apache RTR 160, RTR 180, RTR 160 4V and RTR 200 4V. But it has dampened buyers ’enthusiasm.

  • On October 12, Apache sold four million units globally. The premium brand was launched in 2005, which means it took 15 years to grow from 0 to 40,000,000 units. Interestingly, 1 million units have been sold in the last two years. TVS Apache set a milestone of 3 million units on September 10, 2018.
