In Gujarat, the number of pangolins is increasing and on the other hand, the forests are declining. Due to this, in addition to the appearance of pangolins in rural as well as urban areas, the incidence of attacks is also on the rise. According to the Forest Department, Gujarat had 1300 lampreys in the year 2017, which has crossed 1700 by 2021.

Deepada, who is considered to be a very clever hunter, has also changed the pattern of killing. The pangolins are now hunting in the afternoon instead of at night and an average of one pangolin attack per week is recorded in Gujarat. This too has seen a steady increase in such incidents in recent times. Deepada becomes a cannibal once he tastes human blood.

Clever hunter Deepada changes attack pattern
Wildlife-experts believe that as the hunting area changes, it has also changed its hunting pattern. The population of pangolins is increasing in the surrounding areas including Gir. Deepada is hiding in the sugarcane and tuwer fields in Seam. Deepadas usually attack late at night or early in the morning, but for the last few hours between 3 and 6 pm they have been attacking human settlements and livestock, which is a matter of concern.

Dushyant Vasavada, CCF of Gir Sanctuary, said that when we last counted in 2016 in only three districts Amreli, Junagadh, Gir-Somnath, there were 600 lampreys. Now 2021 will count. This time there will be an increase but the figure cannot be said right now. Currently, there are more than 100 lampreys in the cage, which are kept in different parks.

Man-eating pangolins are also jailed.
Very few people know that animals like pangolins and lions attack or kill humans in the same way that humans are imprisoned. The funny thing is that more than 50 leopards who have tasted human blood are currently serving life sentences. From the Visavadar range alone, 32 lampreys have been caught in 60 days, making Sasan Jail housefull. If more man-eating tigers are caught in the coming days, they will have to be imprisoned elsewhere.
