The number of lions is increasing in the industrial unit area near Rajula Panth in Amreli district and videos of lions are going viral on social media day by day. At the same time the incidence of lion accidents is also on the rise. A video of a lion roaming dangerously on the BMS Highway in Pipavav Defense, half a km away from where the lion had met a few days ago, has gone viral on social media.

Recently a lion died in an accident on the Pipavav railway track. The lion came on the BMS route from Pipavav Defense to Kovaya, half a km away, yesterday. The truck driver applied the brakes just before the accident happened again when the lion suddenly came on the highway. So many motorists, including two bike riders, came to a halt after seeing these scenes.


On this highway, small and big vehicles are running at full speed for 24 hours. When hungry thirsty lions are roaming across the road so there is no telling when the accident will happen. That is when the safety of the lion is questioned. The high risk is due to forest department officials not patrolling here regularly.

In the villages around Rajula, Jafrabad and Pipavav, lions are roaming like dogs, but it is not taken seriously. Lions are more restless in summer as the water points are empty.
