Acidity Problem: What Causes Acidity? How can this be overcome?

When the stomach stoma begins to increase the production of acid, this condition is called acidity.  Normally our stomach secretes hydrochloric acid, which works to digest and break down food.

When a person suffers from acidity, problems like indigestion, gastritis, heartburn, esophageal pain, stomach ulcers and stomach inflammation are seen.

 What is acidity?

Acidity is usually caused by bad eating habits, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and poor lifestyle.  In addition, acidity is more likely to occur in people who take non-veggies or prefer oily and spicy foods.  Certain medications, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), can help people with gastric acidity.  But it is not advisable to take any medicine in this health problem without the permission of the doctor.

People suffering from acidity show symptoms such as pain in the esophagus and stomach inflammation and sour belching after eating food.  Sometimes people with acidity also have constipation and indigestion.  Acidity can be treated with antacids and eating habits and lifestyle changes.  A new technique called endostism can also relieve acid reflux.  However, there are many best home remedies for quick relief from acidity.  Adopting it also relieves acidity.

What are the symptoms of acidity?

Here are some common signs and symptoms of acidity:
 Inflammation of the stomach
 Dry throat
 Restlessness
 Belch
 Nausea
 Mouth sour taste
 Indigestion
 Constipation

What are the causes of acidity?

 1. Consumption of non-vegetarian and spicy foods
 2. Smoking and alcohol consumption
 3. Taking stress
 4. Stomach diseases such as peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, abdominal distention etc.
 5. Intake of drugs like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs etc.

What is the treatment for acidity?

Typically, acidity is treated with antacids that contain compounds containing magnesium or calcium or aluminum.  These antacids neutralize the excess acid present in the stomach, thereby relieving its symptoms.  For health problems such as acidity, your doctor may prescribe histamine blocking agents (H2 receptor blockers) such as cimetidine, ranitidine, femotidine or nizatidine or proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole and lansoprazole.

Although surgery is also available for acidity, there are very few cases in which surgery is required.  However, acidity can also be treated with home remedies.  Banana, basil, cold milk, anise, cumin, cloves, cardamom, mint or mint leaves, ginger, amla etc. are considered to be the best home remedies for acidity.

The problem of acidity can be avoided in the following ways-

 Don't eat spicy food
Include more and more fruits and vegetables in your diet
 Keep yourself hydrated
 Chew and eat food
Allow at least 3 hours between dinner and sleep
Chew basil leaves, cloves, fennel etc.
 Don't take drugs unnecessarily
